How London’s Digital Inclusion Network Are Helping Young Makers
Earlier in the week, I came across this Kickstarter that deserved to be blogged about!
This Kickstarter is focussed on helping young people getting the opportunity to Discover, Maker & Create high tech ideas with world leading resources, innovations, ideas and people.
It’s great to see the aims of this Kickstarter focussed on not just helping the people who can afford to pay to visit these workshops, but also helping underprivileged kids who may not have had this opportunity before. These workshops are FREE for everyone! One of the things I like about the Maker Community is that everyone is so willing to help each other. And this ranges from help in online forums on projects people are working on, to events like these that can significantly impact a child’s life. A workshop like what LonDIN are looking to raise funds for could spark interest for more children to study STEM subjects.
The LonDIN group is made up of people involved in business, education and technology who believe that every young person has the right to be included in the rapid technological advances happening in the digital world.
The areas they’re focussing on are:
I wish this type of workshop was available to me when I was a kid as this sounds like exciting workshops to a part of.
With 3D Printers becoming more commonplace and even available in schools, and skills like coding being in high demand, taking your child along to one of these workshops and letting them discover these fun and engaging topics can be a fun way to introducing them to world of making.
Plus, here are some good reasons why it’s good to learn these digital skills!
We are very much hoping to see this Kickstarter succeed. So far, backers have pledge around £1800 and the target is £5000 with 28 days to go.
